Does grading violate the freedom of speech? |
Unofficial Thought: |
From: Andy McDermott Newsgroups: nwu.school.speech.class.comm-studies.c30 Subject: unofficial thought... Date: Wed, 12 Feb 1997 14:54:37 -0600 Just a naive little thought: I think newsgroups can be very interesting and even fun. This is the first one I've really taken part in, and it's cool to learn what people really think, and even cooler to read people's responses to your own opinions. Here's the kicker: it would be a lot more fun and more appealing to post messages containing your opinions if you weren't getting graded on them. I guess that is why I feel so naive, because I wasn't concentrating on the grading factor for the first half of the quarter, I just said what I thought when I got the chance, and I paid for it dearly in my midterm newsgroup evaluation. I don't know if I'm the only one who is doing so poorly on newsgroup grading, but you can bet that from now on, no more fun postings for me, I'll be focusing on Regular, Forceful, Responsive, Disciplined, and Individual messages. To sum up, I'm not sure what this message is for, maybe just a warning to my mates to be careful what you write, because the unknown grader out there hiding in the shadows is evaluating your every word... p.s. i feel better now--just needed to blow off some steam. Thanks for listening. But, one of the more important things I've learned from my leader in Freedom of Speech; no apologies. Andy McDermott
